Double Glazing Inverness

Homes and neighbourhoods in Inverness, Highland

Inverness, Highland, is a city built along the River Ness, a short run from the Moray Firth. The houses change as you leave the stone streets. This page describes those places. It is not a second copy of the glazing pages, and it does not give any other town its own service heading.

The river and the centre

The Ness runs through the city from the south toward the firth. The centre sits on both banks: stone commercial buildings, traditional fronts, and the castle on the higher ground to the east of the water. Postcode districts here are mostly IV1, IV2 and IV3. That is geography for the city, not a premises postcode. The firm’s street line is stillADDRESS.

Glazing for these streets is introduced on the homepage asdouble glazing in Inverness. The openings as a whole, including doors, are on windows and doors.

Stone streets

The Crown sits uphill from the centre, east of the river. It is a district of stone villas and terraces, with tall openings and fronts that were built to be seen from the street. The Haugh lies closer to the water, on the older streets that follow the Ness. Both are places where a new window is judged against granite and traditional stone, not against a brochure. A note on replacing windows in those fronts is inreplacing windows in an Inverness stone house.

West of the river

Dalneigh is the large area of interwar and post-war housing west of the Ness: semis and short terraces, repeated openings, often harled. Merkinch lies further north, between the river and the canal as the city turns toward the firth. It has older streets and later housing in the same district, and it feels the weather off the water more than a sheltered close in the centre. Kinmylies continues west. Scorguie is on the rising ground above that side of the city, where a house can sit higher than the streets by the river.

Ness-side is the later spread along the river to the south-west, a different age of house from Dalneigh even though both are on the west side of the water.

East of the centre

Hilton is one of the city’s post-war neighbourhoods, east of the centre, with the same kind of repeated housing as parts of Dalneigh. Drakies sits between the centre and Raigmore, a residential district rather than a stone terrace. Raigmore continues east, toward the hospital, with post-war and later houses. Lochardil and Culduthel are to the south. Culduthel climbs onto higher ground, so some houses there take more wind than a street in the Haugh.

Later estates

Inshes, Slackbuie and Westhill are later estates: detached and semi-detached houses, render and stone details, roads that curve rather than the grid of a stone terrace. Culloden, to the east, is both the older name of a village and a large area of later housing. Smithton and Balloch sit with it on that eastern side, places that grew into the city rather than starting as tenement streets. The practical difference for a window is inUPVC or timber for a Highland house.

Houses that face the firth, and the more open ground at Culloden and west of the river, are the subject ofwind off the Moray Firth.

The company also visits Nairn, Beauly, Muir of Ord, Dingwall, Kirkhill and Ardersier. Nairn is along the coast to the east, in IV12. Ardersier is on that same stretch of shore. Kirkhill lies between the city and Beauly. Beauly is to the west, in IV4. Muir of Ord is further west again. Dingwall is north, in IV15. They are named here only as places on the round. They do not have pages, headings, or titles of their own, and this guide does not pair any of them with a service. A surveyor still confirms what an individual property in Inverness, Highland needs. Nothing here is a building-warrant rule.
